The Family Literacy Project is a small non government organization (NGO) from rural KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. In most societies children grow up with their parents or a close family member, a grandparent or aunt. These adults, along with older siblings are the child's first teachers. The education and learning link between children and their adult carers is clear. Children learn from those around them. This case study looked at both the adult-child link in education and learning, as well as the child's influence on the adult to seek further educational opportunities
